It seems my hopes that this outbreak was nothing more than a City curse is short lived. If the random posts on the Network of sensationalized personal information and pictures is any indication of a curse...these cases of citizens coming down ill cannot be a curse. Even during the chaotic periods of curses, there was some sort of theme to be seen. The current trend does not mesh at all.

There has to be more behind the illnesses then meets the eye. While helping to treat some of the ill today, I noticed some had small bites, possibly from rodents. That would fall in line with the Black plague symptoms they were showing. Traditionally rats have been known to carry the disease. It seems prudent that a living or dead at this rate, specimen be found and examined immediately. If it is indeed the rats that are acting as the carrier, they will need to be exterminated.

Of course timing begs the question of who or what is behind this mass outbreak? An outbreak of multiple illness this varying is rare outside this world. Within this City it doesn't seem possible that so many deadly illnesses would only begin striking now. Especially if my guess that this is no City curse holds true.

I can only pray that the citizens as a whole will be able to find the answers before this gets even more out of hand. I'll certainly do my part to help.

You've noticed it to? This can't possibly be a curse...

Did you notice anything about the people infected? Some of them had rat bites.

This is going on day three. I was hoping it was merely a curse a day ago but now...it doesn't seem likely.

I did notice that some had small bites but many were unconscious I could not ask what bite them.

I was able to speak to to conscious ones- both said that they were bitten by rats.

And the rats seem to be acting oddly, lately. They don't seem to flee from people- instead, it's almost like they're seeking them out.

Hmm, did they say how long after they were bitten that they fell ill?

...I hadn't noticed that. You're right that is quite odd behavior for rats. By chance did you notice what the appearance of the rats were, when you saw them?

They weren't bitten before the twenty first, is all I know... So hours before, at most.

And... No, beyond that they seemed healthy- but that en't right! If they're carriers, then they ought to be sick to, right miss? Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention.

No, you're correct. Carrier rats tend to look sickly as they themselves have got the disease. The lack of rat corpses does not quite fall in line with the rats being the cause of disease either.

Maybe it en't a normal strain of plague?

But it seems correlated to being bitten by rats... Unless the rats are immune?

I have considered that it isn't, but I'm merely a chemist, not a biologist. So I would have no way myself to confirm or deny that strain is that different.

All of them though? It doesn't seem likely they would all be immune but you are right that the connection is there. Even I cannot truly dispute that.

But the dates where the rats started acting odd start on the twentyfirst... the same day people started getting sick with everything else.

Are we sure these diseases are natural ones, even if they en't a curse?

Well there is always the possibility that the diseases are not natural, but without solid proof. All we have to go on is speculation. It would be best to keep speculation to a minimum. There is already enough panic to go around that we need not add to it.

I'll see if I can speak to one of the healers, who has been handling the treatment of those who are suffering plague symptoms. If I find anything out I will be sure to relay what I find out to you.

Perhaps but I'm not sure how close you wish to be involved. I think the only way to determine the source of one of the illnesses is find, and trap one of the strange acting rats.

But, all the same, it sounds like its for the public good.

It is. We need confirmation that the rats are really carriers or the cause. Since none have been found dead yet, it gives me some doubt that they could be responsible for it.

Once confirmation is made, then finding and destroying their nest will be the next order of business.
